I find all the new research being done on stretching to be incredibly interesting. More often than not, what we think (and therefore what we do) is totally unfounded and in many cases, even detrimental to performance. And that probably doesn't only apply to stretching. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that other things we do as athletes actually hinder our performance.
Here's a piece on stretching from the New York Times. If you're an athlete, you might want to take the time to analyze your stretching routine. And if you're coaching 3rd graders, please please please teach them how to stretch dynamically. Heck, they'll probably even enjoy it more!
